Advanced Dentistry by Austin Smiles
We have the latest advances and technology in dentistryAdvanced Dentistry
Neuromuscular Dentistry is a practice philosophy that expands upon the traditional approach to advanced dentistry and considers the entire system that controls the positioning and function of the jaw. Neuromuscular Dentistry uses a physiologic (natural position) approach and applies techniques and objective data to assist in TMJ and Obstructive Sleep Apnea treatment efficacy and success.
The science of Neuromuscular Dentistry evaluates your muscle activity (or lack thereof), teeth and joints by using tools such as Jaw Tracking, EMG Analysis and TENS (Transcutaneous Electric Neural Stimulation). This form of advanced dentistry requires hundreds of hours in post graduate education. We pride ourselves on receiving the best continuing education available, as it allows us to continuously evolve in knowledge and our team continues to be highly trained in all aspects of the services we provide.
Laser Dentistry
Through the use of our laser technology, we can perform a variety of dental procedures quickly and efficiently, typically without the need for local anesthesia and an almost painless healing period. Laser dentistry effectively treats the soft tissues (the gums) and hard tissues (the teeth). Lasers allow patients to experience much less discomfort, quicker recovering times, and improved dental health. Your gums and teeth will be treated with extreme accuracy and safety. Patients who have experienced dental anxiety in the past will be treated to a relaxing experience. With laser dentistry, there are no scary scalpels or drills, annoying dental sounds, or painful tooth friction.
Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea is a common problem amongst middle aged Americans, especially men and overweight or obese people. The most common symptoms of OSA is excessive snoring and waking throughout the night. This prevents people from getting a rested night of sleep and often leaves them feeling sluggish and tired during the day. Sleep apnea can also lead to other health problems such as high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. With treatment from Authentic Smiles in Austin, Texas, patients suffering from sleep apnea can save their health and get a better night of sleep. We offer our patients oral devices to clear any obstructions in the patient’s airway that causes the sleep apnea. Visit out sleep apnea page to learn more about diagnosis and treatment.
TMJ / TMD
If you wake up after a night of sleep with jaw pain, lock jaw, or even experience clicking or popping when opening or closing your mouth, this can be a sign of TMJ inflammation. Luckily, at Authentic Smiles, we offer a simple treatment for TMD. Sometimes it can be caused from clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth, or simply from experiencing too much stress. In severe cases, you might need orthodontic treatment or surgery to fix your problem. We offer our patients oral devices to prevent teeth grinding or clenching from occurring during the night, leaving you waking without pain. We will diagnose the root of your TMJ pain and find a solution from there.
